Edna Mirecka (Battye) opened Chappel Galleries on 16th May 1986. Later meeting Władysław Mirecki, painter, it is one of the very few art galleries to claim a working artist as one of the proprietors. Set in the picturesque Colne Valley backing onto the River Colne it is an out of town gallery overlooking the romanesque 32 arch working railway Chappel Viaduct.

Drawn from the 20th & 21st century, Chappel Galleries sells work by professional artists, many with national reputations, also bringing to the attention of their public some who are younger or less well known. Contrary to current trends, they insist on showing artists who are grounded in the skill of painting, drawing and making of sculpture. They like to retain their identity by selling the work of artists from the region, including those who, although not living here, have regional connections.
